Before having kids getting around New York City was a non issue. I would take the subway, hail a cab, or just walk the city blocks if I had extra time. As with everything, life changes and now I have 3 kids to also transport from one activity to the next. I learned really quickly that although it may be the safest option, car seats are not exactly light weight “or” convenient to lug around. Let’s not even get started on trying to install one on the fly in a NYC yellow cab. Nine years ago my husband and I safely brought our son home from the hospital in a NYC cab and I can honestly say, we never fully installed another car seat for a temporary cab ride around the city again. This past spring I was fortunate enough to be chosen as one of the few participants around the country to help test out the new Samsung NX300 camera. My job as a photographer, mom, part time blogger, and NYC resident creates the perfect storm to be exposed to some pretty cool scenes. Having my NX300 in hand has forced me to become more aware of my surroundings, look closer for inspiration, and “up” my game with our friendly competition. Speaking of competition, I am surrounded by some phonoemenal photographers and feel extremely lucky to be in their company. Last week I took my son to see the latest presentation at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in Central Park. Aside from the historical aspect and setting of this playhouse, it is in one of my favorite areas of the park and I love having an excuse to visit! If you have passed the little playhouse before and wondered (as I had done for so long) what’s in it….. buy a ticket online and check it out!!! Summer has officially come to an end and what a summer it was! I was lucky to have escaped an earthquake but not so lucky with Hurricane Irene. Other than the highly irritable weather, the rest of my summer was excellent! After years of being a non-driving New Yorker, I decided to jump behind the wheel, load up my GPS and was set free! I drove from one end of the Hamptons to the other for the good part of August. I met my clients on the beaches and in their homes and had the most amazing family photos shoots that I will never forget! There was sand, water, smiles, wind, and rain but everything worked out in the end just as it should! Continue reading Summer in the City Part II
A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege of attending an event at the Empire Hotel with my son and significant other dadarocks!. Considering it was the 2nd hottest day of the year so far…. being at a rooftop pool in the city was too good to be true! The special event was hosted by auro-dri….. the official product of the American Swimming Coaches Association.
On hand to spend time with our little ones was Aaron Piersol, the official spokesperson for auro-dri. Who would know more about swimmer’s ear than an Olympic Gold Medalist? Aaron was amazing. He entertained the kids, showed them proper swimming techniques and silly water tricks all afternoon! Continue reading Swimming with Aaron Piersol
