Camelback Lodge and Indoor Waterpark – Your Poconos Adventure

I had the pleasure of attending the media event last week for the Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark at Camelback Resort.  This is a one of a kind 125,000 square foot indoor waterpark which is the largest in the Northeast and largest hotel ever constructed in the U.S. in a single phase.  It is something you truly have to see to believe!

I also spent the day with my husband, 6 year old son and 2 year old daughter.  We all had a day to remember forever and I can’t wait to share our experiences.

The day started with a ceremony and presentation front the owners.    Creating and building an indoor watermark of this stature takes plenty of dreams and visions which were spoken about in the moving speeches.  You could literally feel the excitement as the waterpark was revealed and finally opened to the guests in attendance.

Before our indoor watermark adventure started we needed to eat and were thrilled to experience the beautiful dining area of “Hemispheres” .  Guests can enjoy spectacular views of the Poconos Mountains in the windows while they dine.  The restaurant is set up buffet style and selections are varied for everyone to enjoy the healthy options.

The other dining options that will be available is the maritime-themed Neptunes, which features seafood and sushi and the Trails End Pub and Grille will feature cocktails and a gastropub-style menu.  There is also a world bazaar and coffee shop as well as The Hungry Camela and Sweet Discovery option.

Finally my son got his wish as we checked out  Aquatopia.  The  indoor family adventure center features 13 waterslides, a wave pool, lazy river, toddler area, and my son’s favorite which was the Bombora FlowRider surfing area.

I spent time with  my daughter getting her used to the water in these adorable baby and toddler swings that were perfect for “getting her feet wet”. Once she became accustomed to the water, she went up and down the slide over and over and over for hours.  The toddler area is separated in a nice space and allows for little ones to splash about in a safe environment. The water level is only 6 in. deep in this area so little ones can run and play very easy in the water.

My son absoultely had a blast at Aquatopia. My husband took him on all the big slides and they loved the wave pool as well. Safety is everything and lifeguards were on hand at every turn making sure kids were safe as they played. Life jackets are available in all sizes and easily accessible.

The Bombora FlowRider was amazing! There are two separate height requirements for the boards and the staff will point you in the right direction.  There was slight learning curve for the surfing area but the instructors were very patient and helpful in finding the best way to help out my son.  Once he “got it’ the smiles became bigger and bigger!  He could have stayed in the surf area all day if we let him.  For older and more experienced surfers there are larger boards.

After a fun filled afternoon at Aquatopia we changed back into our clothes in the very nice locker areas and visited the awesome arcade.  This is not your typical arcade but really a wonderland for kids (and adults)  who are into video games.  There was also a Kids Spa and Pottery center which we will definitely check out at a later time.

Our last stop before leaving was the indoor miniature golf area and indoor rope center.  My son started with the mini golf and then conquered his fears at a state of the art indoor rope center.  He was placed in a harness with a rope attached to him that he pulled along as he made his way to the very top. Honestly I was a little scared watching him but he did it and was so proud!

This weekend May 1-3 is the opening weekend and we look forward to visiting again this summer. I can’t wait to stay in one of the 453 guest rooms nestled in the heart of the Poconos Mountains.  We will also be checking out the mountain coaster, a treetops obstacle course and zip lining.  Camelback Mountain Lodge and Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark offers more year-round adventure than anywhere else in the country!
