Harper just wrapped up her first semester at Broadway Dance Center Children & Teens. The new location has been nothing less than spectacular and we have looked forward to each and every week. The new location located on West 65th st near the famous Lincoln Center offers young dancers elite training in the most beautiful state-of-the art studios.
After seeing the signs each and every week for the classic George Balanshine’s The Nutcracker, I knew this was the year we should go! Harper has been so interested in ballet since we started in September at BDC, and I knew she would love it (and of course me too!). It was amazing as you can imagine and I can’t wait to go back.
Dance is taken very seriously at Broadway Dance Center. The staff and faculty are extremely professional and everything runs seamlessly. Harper’s teacher for the Ballet/Tap Combo class is so great with the kids and really knows how to push them in the right direction. A good foundation is so important for everything in the early years but especially in dance. Ms. Lynette makes sure toes are pointed and legs are straight and does not let a student continue on without mastering the skill first.
One thing I love about BDC are the large TV screens in the waiting area. Parents and caregivers can view the class and watch without disruption. We all know our kids perform a little different when we are not around so this is a great perk. However, this past week I finally got my wish of being able to see the class from start to end since it was parent observation week.
The girls were so excited to have an audience and it was really special! The class was extremely structured and the girls knew what to expect as they transitioned from one move to the next. The instructor made sure everyone was listening, actively engaged, and was not afraid to call someone out for not listening. I thought this was great and more than once my own daughter needed a gentle reminder to repeat a skill until it was correct.
Broadway Dance Center Children and Teens is hosting a Open House this weekend on Sunday, January 21st from 9AM-6PM. This is a perfect opportunity to come check out the friendly space and learn about the wide variety of Spring Semester class offerings. They will be holding FREE trial classes for ages 2-18 years old. You will also be able to meet the teachers, create fun crafts, and leave with a goody bag! Oh, and I heard Magnolia Bakery will be donating some goodies! YES!
If you are unable to make the Open House this weekend, not to worry because registration is now open online for the 16-week Winter/Spring. From January until June, BDC will be scheduling kids 6 months to 18 years! With classes ranging from Baby Movers to hop-hop, jazz, tumbling, ballet, tap, lyric, creative movement and more, there is definitely something for everyone!
