An afternoon with Victoria & Abdul

This weekend I attended a showing of the new movie Victoria & Abdul. It was showing at The Paris Theatre in NYC which is my all time favorite theater and an experience within itself. The movie is in limited release currently but soon will be nation wide.

As my friend and I found our assigned seats at the theater, we were literally giddy with excitement since we slipped away on a Saturday morning from our combined 5 children for some adult time. I have been a loyal Judi Dench fan for most of my life and was looking forward to seeing her once again on the big screen.

Victoria and Abdul is a movie about the unlikely friendship between Queen Victoria and her Indian attendant, played by the fabulous Ali Fazal. After the young clerk finds favor with the Queen, she begins to see a changing world through new eyes and questions the constrictions of her long-held position. The movie is based all true events…. mostly 🙂

Victoria and Abdul set in the late 1800’s  had us laughing out loud at moments but also dealt with the same relevant topics in today’s society. We both enjoyed the movie immensely and I would definitely recommend it.

After seeing Victoria and Abdul we walked across the street to the iconic NYC hotel, The Plaza. As we made our way to the Palm Court my friend and I took in the beautiful lobby with the larger than life floral arrangements and grandeur.

The afternoon tea  inside the Palm Court at The Plaza is a a once in a lifetime experience. I have lived in NYC over 15 yrs and have never actually been here for high tea.

As we toasted our glasses of rose, my friend and I relaxed and enjoyed our time in the beautiful Palm Court. Our waiter was excellent and recommend the “The New Yorker Tea” which included tea for two, warm scones, a selection of mini sandwiches and last but not least the most divine pastries.

A movie and tea date on a crisp Fall day was just perfection in every way!

XOXO,
