Staycation in the City with Chime

New York City is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world. After all, what’s not to love? There are endless things to do for people of all ages and especially families.  I still remember visiting the Big Apple with my family when I was 10 years old and think about all the fun we had!

Now that I have my own family and we “live” in the Big Apple it’s important to me my kids don’t take their surroundings for granted. I have to remind my son often that people travel from all over to visit his city. Some days I think he gets it and other days I don’t but it only reinforces my need to see our city!

There are lots of options in NYC year around but of course the warmer months bring even more opportunities for adventure. Recently my family decided have a little NYC Staycation.  Our first activity was to hop on a NYC water taxi and look at our city from a distance. It’s surprisingly easy to board the water taxi from Pier 11 and my kids love it! You can check the schedule and see what trip makes the most sense but honestly, you can go somewhere and come right back which is just as fun! Being outdoor on the water and seeing sights such as the Statue of Liberty and all the skyscrapers is thrilling!

Like any tourist on vacation, sometimes you don’t have time to stop for a meal. This was the same with our staycation. Luckily in NYC there is always a food cart nearby.  Who cares if it was right on the side of the highway! Everyone was much happier as we kept walking along the water.

The Seaglass Carousel at the Battery Conservancy is one of our all time favorite spots. This relatively new carousel is unlike anything you have experienced and my kids could ride it again and again. It is a true aquatic adventure combining art, architecture, and adventure to children of all ages. The iridescent fish and spiraling pavilion brings a smile to everyone. My almost 9 year old son still enjoys it!

Being a local family we have already done some of the main tourist attractions but there is never a shortage of fun things to do. Some of the most exciting things for kids could easily be overlooked such as this chime pad built into the ground. The girls could jump on this for hours entertaining themselves. The Hudson River backdrop is stunning and I could watch them play forever!

There are so many sights and sounds in the city. I love that we live in a melting pot and enjoy cultural diversity every day! During our staycation we caught an outdoor concert with the most salsa worthy sounds from Cuba. This band had everyone moving enjoying the beat.

Of course in NYC everyone knows you can make music out of anything. On our walk home we ran into a  man that made his own drums from empty buckets. My 4 year old enjoyed his music just as much! She danced and sang along!

One great thing about taking a staycation is the ability to leave your children with a trusted babysitter and have some adult time. I can’t remember the last time my husband and I were alone without the kids during the day but we booked a sitter from Chime and took a little day trip out of the city. We knew our kids were in good hands and we enjoyed an outdoor benefit on a gorgeous day.

Having an on demand babysitting app has really changed my life! I no longer panic when I receive a last minute invitation or realize I can’t take all three of my kids to a particular venue.  Chime has given both my husband and I the flexibility to take care of our kids “and” ourselves!

Use my discount link to receive $50 off your first booking with Chime. I’m sure you will love the on demand service just as much as I do!
